As the service manager at Grand Pointe Marina, Chris makes certain all of our customers’ boats receive the highest level of professional maintenance and repair service, year after year. Whether it’s a pre-delivery inspection, routine upkeep, or a minor or a major overhaul, he and his expert crew treat each boat as if it were their own.

Chris has been a boater for more than 30 years and has been working in the boating industry for 15 years, all of them at Grand Pointe Marina. “I was drawn to the industry because I was always around boats and I love to experience new things out on the water,” says Chris, who recalls fishing with his grandfather when he was a kid as one of his favorite memories.

Chris and his wife Kelly live in Eaton Rapids with their daughters, Emeighly and Alexandria, and a variety of pets including two dogs and several cats, where they enjoy family walks and going to the movies. They also enjoy spending time boating on Jordan Lake and Lake Michigan.

Customers arriving at our Lansing location to have their boat serviced can always expect to be greeted by the smiling face of Sam Scott. As the service writer at Grand Pointe Marina, Sam checks in our customers’ boats as they come in for maintenance and repair, noting all of the details of the service required in our computer system. This allows our crew to make the right repairs in as little time as possible, so our customers are back out on the water in no time.

Sam has been with Grand Pointe Marina since 2013 and is a lifelong boater. “We always had boats growing up,” says Sam, who remembers fishing with his father in the 1970s using cane poles. These days, the father of two and grandfather of three enjoys fishing Coldwater Lake. “It’s seven lakes joined together so it’s a great place to fish and boat, and all the sandbars are fun for the kids,” he says.

Doug Roosen grew up around boats, spending many summers on Crystal Lake in Northwest Michigan. Boating was a big part of his family's life growing up, from fishing, skiing, tubing, cruising on the water, or just anchoring at the sandbar, there is no better way to spend time and make memories with family and friends. As a Salesperson at Grand Pointe Marina, Doug is able to help others find the right boats to do the same with there family and friends,whether it's a pontoon, fishing boat, sportboat, or cruiser. "The best feeling is when a customer calls you to tell you how much they are enjoying their new boat on the water, while they are out there!"

Scott Von Spreecken started at Grand Pointe Marina – his first time working in the boating industry – in 2012, after being a boating enthusiast for 35 years. “I was always fishing as a kid, and then really into water sports with friends,” he says, explaining what drew him to working in the industry. Scott, who has been in sales for his entire working career, feels like he’s found the right fit here.“I knew Grand Pointe Marina was expanding, and they’ve acquired such great brands, so I felt this would be a great opportunity,” he says, adding “I’m really proud to work with a top 100 dealer.”

One of Scott’s best memories of boating was a trip down the Mississippi River. Over the years, he and his wife Cathy have made lots memories out on the water with their three children, the youngest of whomis now in college. These days the family enjoys boating on Kalamazoo County’s Gull Lake.

Ron joined Grand Pointe Marina as a salesperson in 2009. He’s been working in sales for nearly 40 years and, when the opportunity to sell boats here came up, he “…jumped at it!” as he puts it; “What’s a better job, and a better experience, than selling boats?” Ron loves matching our customers with the perfect boat for their wants and needs. “Whether it’s a fishing boat, a pontoon, an open bow, a cuddy cabin or a cabin cruiser, I’ll make sure they get the right boat,” he says.Like many of the crew at Grand Pointe, Ron has been a devoted boater from much of his life. Growing up on a small inland lake in Livingston County, his family always had a boat. “It was mainly fishing, always fun,” he says. Now a resident of Howell, Ron still enjoys fishing, much of the time with his family. On a trip last year with two of his four grandchildren, his granddaughters wondered why the boat was filling with water. “I pull the plug to drain my boat when loading it onto the trailer 100% of the time and 50% of the time, I forget to put it back in!” he explains. Ron immediately knew what the problem was, so no harm; just a little embarrassment. This past March Ron, his father, and his brother and nephew took a fishing trip on the “St. Joe” river which he describes as “A great family trip!”

Matt has worked in boating for five years, all of them at Grand Pointe Marina. A lifelong boating enthusiast, Matt decided to pursue a career in the industry because of his love of boating and being on the water. “Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve spent my summers on and around boats,” he explains. As a salesperson at Grand Pointe Marina, Matt’s forte is finding our customers just the right boat. “I really enjoy being able to help potential customers narrow down their search and making sure they get the boat that’s the best fit for their family,” he says.

Matt has great memories of his earlier boating days. “When I was young, I spent several weeks each summer cruising the North Channel of Canada in northern Lake Huron,” he says. Now that he’s all grown up, much of his focus is on fishing. “My real passion as far as boating goes is fishing,” he says. Matt likes to fish salmon and steelhead in Lake Michigan and walleye in Lake Erie. Even the winter months will find him following his passion when he heads to the rivers in northern Michigan to fly fish.

A seasoned boating pro, Rob joined Grand Pointe Marina in 2014 after working in the industry for 14 years. He’s been a boater for his entire life. “I grew up on a lake, and had an early love of fishing, so being on a boat is just a way of life for me,” he says. “I’d sold insurance in southwest Michigan. When I decided to relocate to the Detroit area, my love of fishing and background in boating made boating sales a natural fit.” Rob started with Grand Pointe Marina when we acquired our Detroit location. And that ‘natural fit’ feeling has only grown for him. “The reason that I love working at Grand Pointe Marina is because they share the same passion as I do; taking “the family approach” when working with our customers,” he says.

Rob and his wife Sarah have two young children, Claire and Brett, who they enjoy spending time with outdoors and fishing, as well as supporting them in their athletic and scholastic endeavors. Lake St. Clair is a favorite boating destination as are the lakes of southwest Michigan and the family cabin in the Western Upper Peninsula.

Chris Stevens, Grand Pointe Marina’s general manager, has boating in his blood. “I’ve worked in boating my entire life. I was born and raised in it,” he says. It was Chris’ parents who started Grand Pointe in 1968. Chris studied the culinary arts in college and spent four years exploring different restaurant jobs, but “…the boating business brought me back,” he says.

As the general manager of Grand Pointe, Chris interacts with our customers every day. “We have a clientele that ranges from people looking for a quality, preowned boat to those looking for a luxury boat with all the extras. They all have one thing in common; they love the water and spending time on it with their families,” he says, adding “Working in boating is challenging, but it’s an awesome reward to fulfill people’s dreams. I make it my daily mission to cater to our great customers.”

Chris and his wife Kirsty have four children, three girls and a boy, who are already budding boating enthusiasts. “They love to ski and tube and explore new areas,” he says. “That’s the best thing about boating for me; the thrill of creating new memories with our family is only a road trip away.” A favorite nearby destination for the family is Lake Odessa. Chris also enjoys golfing and is a diehard Michigan State Spartans’ fan.
